almost done

I am quilting #1 son's quilt with straight lines on the diagonal and doing it edge to edge.  When I completed that much, I decided to go the other way and make a grid in the center where the nine patches are and leave the borders with diagonal lines in just one direction.  So far I am liking it.

Hope everyone has a great rest of the week.

have I been sewing ...

Yes I have ... along with the other things that routinely go on around here.  I have finished another quilt top -- with a line of valentine themed fabric that I bought at least three years ago.  I'm consistently behind the times if nothing else :) I used a Moda Bakeshop pattern.  It was easy and fun to put together.

I started with a Layer Cake -- some of which I cut into four pieces  to use as the center blocks of the finished squares.

Then I cut the 10" Layer Cake squares into the strips needed to border the center blocks.

After that it was just a matter of piecing the blocks and adding some borders.

I was very happy with my valentine results.

As soon as I finish quilting the Scrappy Nine Patch I made for Michael, I am going to sandwich and quilt it.  Maybe that will happen before the fourteenth.  If I get into my sewing room this afternoon, maybe it will even be finished today.

zipper pouches

I found a tutorial for making a zipper pouch.  The zipper part has always discouraged me from making one but now that I've tried it -- it really is not difficult.  I made a couple for Christmas  and then after Christmas I went to the mall and found a pretty Vera Bradley Purse for half price.  They were selling everytthing in the store half price because the store is moving.  Anyway, I really like the purse but it doesn't have a zipper pocket on the inside to hold little "stuff" that always gets lost in the bottom of my purse so .... I just made a zipper pouch.  The best thing is, I can use it in any purse that needs a zipper pocket on the inside.

finished my first schnibbles flimsy

This  project involved a lot of cutting of some fairly small pieces.  The pattern is called Plan C.  I used some white fabric from my stash and 2 Christmas themed charm packs.  For those who don't know, charms are precut 5" squares.  Every charm -- there are 69 used in the quilt was cut into at least four pieces.  Lots of cutting :)  Then after laying out each row, There were 11 sections to each row that had to be pieced togerther and several of those sections had been pieced before laying the rows out.   It was time consuming but still fun to do. Reminds me of a jigsaw puzzle in some ways.  Now I just need to quilt it. I will try another one .  Here are some pictures of the process.

Cutting and Piecing

 Piecing the outer border

The middle of the quilt without any borders

With the inner border

The finished top.  It's abut 34 inches square.  I managed to pretty much cut off the top and bottom borders.
It turned out pretty well for my first one.

Hope everyone is having a great week.

slow start to a new year

Had a really nice holiday - visiting in Texas and a quick stop in MS but haven't really felt much like blogging lately.  I have been busy in my sewing room for the past few days and will be posting about progress I've made getting some projects started that have been stacking up and up and up ...

I do have a finish to show -- sort of -- it's not a quilt yet but it is a finished quilt top.

It's the Kisses For My Beloved BOM that I worked on last year and once  the blocks were finished , it got put aside and now I have finally put the blocks together and added the borders.

I'm going to do my first Schnibbles Quilt -- send me some tips Polly :)--in the next few days and once it is pieced, I'm going to get busy with some quilting because that stack is now five or six quilts high - YIKES!!
